Privacy, free limits and refunds
Where your schedule lives
- The schedule lives only in the link. The names, chores, weeks and start date are packed into the part of the link after the # sign. Browsers keep that part to themselves: it is not sent to this site or to any other server when the link is opened.
- Anyone with the link can read the names and tasks. The link is not encrypted and has no password. Whoever receives it, or is forwarded it, can read the whole house rota. Share links only with your household, and do not put anything in a name or chore that you would not want them to see.
- Nothing is stored server-side. This site is a set of static files. It has no database, no accounts and no record of the rotas people make. The rota is calculated in your browser, and the calendar (.ics) file is created in your browser too.
- Only this site's own files. The pages set no cookies and load scripts and styles only from this site.
Because nothing is stored, a lost link cannot be recovered: make the rota again. If you change the rota, the old links keep showing the old schedule, so send the new links.
The licence check
The licence check sends only the licence key to this site. This site asks Gumroad, which sells the licence, whether the key is valid and not refunded. No names, chores or schedules are part of that request.
After a valid check, the unlocked limits and the chore preset lists are saved in this browser's local storage under the name rota_pro. The licence key itself is not saved. The licence page has a button that removes the saved unlock from the browser.
Hosting
The files of this site are served by Cloudflare Pages. As with any website, the hosting provider handles the request for each page and file your browser loads. Those requests do not contain your schedule, because the schedule is in the part of the link that is not sent.
Free limits and what the licence adds
- Free: rotas for up to 4 people and up to 4 weeks, with personal links and calendar (.ics) files.
- With a Chore Rota Pro licence (USD 3.50, one-time): rotas for up to 12 people and up to 26 weeks, and six chore preset lists. Those are the caps of the paid version: it does not go above 12 people or 26 weeks.
- Opening a link you received is always free and needs no licence.
Refunds
The licence is sold through Gumroad, and refunds follow Gumroad's refund policy. A refunded licence key stops unlocking the paid limits.
