Chore Rota

House share chore rota for 3 people and 5 chores

In a small house share the chores outnumber the people, so everyone has a job every week and the question is who gets two. A rotation answers it by passing the double load around. This page shows a full six-week table with dates and why six weeks is a good length for three people.

Worked example: 3 people, 5 chores, 6 weeks

Priya, Omar and Lena share a house and five chores. The first week starts on Monday 2 November 2026. Each chore moves on by one person every week.

Who carries two chores

Five chores among three people means two people have two chores and one person has one in any week. In week 1 Priya has the bins and the floors, Omar has the kitchen and the hall, and Lena has only the bathroom. In week 2 the light week moves to Priya, and in week 3 to Omar. Over three weeks everyone has had the light week once.

Why six weeks is an even length

The pattern repeats every three weeks, the number of people. Six is two full cycles, so in this table each person does each of the five chores exactly twice. Stop at week 4 instead and Priya has done the bins and the floors twice while Omar and Lena have done them once, which is still within one turn but not yet even. Pick a number of weeks that is a multiple of the number of people when you can.

Free and Pro sizes

Three people fit inside the free version, which makes rotas for up to 4 people and up to 4 weeks. Six weeks is above the free limit, so this table needs the paid Chore Rota Pro licence, which covers up to 12 people and up to 26 weeks and nothing above that. Only the organiser needs it. Each housemate's personal link shows their own weeks and downloads a calendar (.ics) file, with no licence needed.

Privacy: the schedule lives only in the link. Anyone with the link can read the names and chores in it, and nothing is stored on a server. Details are on the privacy page.
