Couple chore schedule for 2 people
Two people sharing a home usually have more chores than hands, so a fair schedule is really about which jobs travel together. Split the list into two bundles of about the same effort and swap them every week, so nobody has to keep score in their head.
Worked example: 2 people, 6 chores, 4 weeks
Maya and Theo list six chores in this order: cooking, dishes, bins, bathroom, laundry, shopping. Each chore moves to the other person every week.
| Week | Cooking | Dishes | Bins | Bathroom | Laundry | Shopping |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Maya | Theo | Maya | Theo | Maya | Theo |
| 2 | Theo | Maya | Theo | Maya | Theo | Maya |
| 3 | Maya | Theo | Maya | Theo | Maya | Theo |
| 4 | Theo | Maya | Theo | Maya | Theo | Maya |
In week 1 Maya cooks, takes the bins out and does the laundry, while Theo does the dishes, the bathroom and the shopping. In week 2 they swap. The pattern repeats every two weeks, so after four weeks each of them has done every chore exactly twice.
Why the order of the list matters
The rotation hands chores out in list order, one person after the other. With two people, the chores in odd places (first, third, fifth) always travel together, and so do those in even places. That gives you three ways to shape the bundles:
- Put the cook and the dishes next to each other. They land in different bundles, so whoever cooks this week does not also wash up.
- Alternate heavy and light jobs. Bathroom and laundry take longer than bins, so place them in different bundles.
- Keep daily jobs off the schedule. Wiping the counter works better as a habit than as a weekly turn.
A link and a calendar each
The generator builds this schedule from the two names and the chore list. Each partner gets a personal link that shows their own weeks, written as "Cooking + Bins + Laundry", with the whole table below. A button on that page downloads a calendar (.ics) file with an all-day event for each chore on the first day of each week.
Free and Pro sizes
Two people and four weeks fit inside the free version, which makes rotas for up to 4 people and up to 4 weeks. A longer run, such as a twelve-week plan, needs the paid Chore Rota Pro licence, which covers up to 12 people and up to 26 weeks and nothing above that.
Privacy: the schedule lives only in the link. Anyone with the link can read the names and chores in it, and nothing is stored on a server. Details are on the privacy page.
